General:
Widow Spiders (Family Theridiidae) are medium-sized spiders that weave erratic webs, often near the ground or in a dark corner. Females are large, black, shiny, and have a red hour-glass shaped mark on the underside of the abdomen. Males are much smaller and tend to be plain brownish.
Round, white, egg sacks often can be seen in the web, also old egg sacks, sheds, and prey debris.
Like all spiders, Widow Spiders have fangs and venom, and these are quite harmful to humans. Highly venomous and dangerous to humans. |
