General:
Wolf Spiders (Family Lycosidae) are medium to large sized spiders that have long legs and excellent eyesight. Like all spiders, wolf spiders have eight eyes, but two of the eyes are large and prominent, while the remaining six are small.
Wolf spiders usually are solitary, and most species hunt actively on the ground, sometimes even chasing prey for short distances; other species wait in or near the mouth of a burrow, then pounce on passing prey.
Like all spiders, wolf spiders have fangs and venom. However, they are generally harmless to humans because of their small size. |
