General Description: Palm Warblers (Setophaga palmarum) are sexually monomorphic warblers, but with two races. Both races are olive above with a yellow eyeline and a rusty cap, streaks on the breast and belly, and yellow around the base of the tail. In the western race, the belly is white with a bit of yellow wash; but in the eastern race, the belly is all yellow. Winter and young birds are similar, but dull.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Parulidae. Formerly Dendroica palmarum.
Favored Habitat: Breeds in thickets at edge of spruce bogs; winters in brushy edges, marshes, lawn edges. |
