Pinyon Dwarf Mistletoe (Arceuthobium divaricatum)

General: Pinyon Dwarf Mistletoe (Arceuthobium divaricatum) is a parasitic plant that lives by taking water and nutrients from other species of plants. There are nine species of mistletoe in Nevada (perhaps eight in southern Nevada), and Pinyon Pine Dwarf Mistletoe specializes on Singleleaf Pinyon Pine.

In the genus Arceuthobium, the plant reproduces by ejecting sticky seeds from the berry. The seeds land on other branches or other trees and start a new plant.

Family: Mistletoe (Santalaceae [formerly Viscaceae]).
